I am Ben Aitchison, an Experimental Animation student at CalArts. I come here from the shores of Lake Michigan in Northwest Indiana near Chicago. I enjoy experimenting with many different art mediums. I try to keep a strong foundation with practical techniques while using digital tools to enhance what’s there. Painting, drawing, and sculpting all influence my animation projects, but creating works in Blender or After Effects opens up new creative possibilities. The way that humans interact with each other is a recurring theme in my work. As communication becomes more streamlined through technology, I wonder if there will be a lack of empathy or willingness to learn from each other in the future.
