This is a stop-motion short about a futuristic nursing home run by robots; while practically more efficient, human empathy can’t be artificially replaced. After many sketches, I started building the set out of cardboard, covered in plaster to give a concrete texture. For the various sci-fi elements, I collected trash from around my campus and glued it together, painting and weathering it to appear as one solid object. The puppet uses a wire armature held together with epoxy, sculpted from foam clay and painted with acrylic. The hallway at the beginning was too large to build practically, so it is entirely 3D in the final; the transition point is when the camera goes through the door, with everything before it being 3D and everything after being stop-motion.
